I got bored one night and decided to document my dinner making process on Snapchat. I thought the combination of pictures and words would be a great way to show the steps of cooking, and using My Story allowed it to be viewed in order and more than once. That first night I made my mom's delicious baked mac & cheese. It was a great dinner and the process was fun because I got to think up funny things to say and do for each step. For example, I was wearing glasses so I let them get fogged up for a picture.
As a one off experiment it was fun, but it got me thinking about social media and how we use it. No one wants to see 100 Instagrams of you cooking the same meal, and live tweeting doesn't give you as much scope for pictures. So Snapchat seems like the perfect way to do a funny cooking show. Especially since I am not about to stand in front of a camera and talk you through a recipe, sorry. Plus my friends liked it, or at least that's what they said.
I decided to make a King Cake for a Mardi Gras party I went to last week, and thought it would be fun to share it. But I knew the process would be complicated and that people might want to make it at a later date rather than follow along or finish it in the 24 hours that My Story Snaps last. So as I was going, I saved each snap, and thought about how to combine them into something more permanent. I dismissed the idea of a Facebook album, because I had a few videos to include. Instead, I made a movie.
It contains every snap from the process, even when I made mistakes. So follow along and learn from what I did right! Also, if you try it yourself make sure to snap me the result! It's hannahkanderson
